As a mom of five kids, one of my least favorite “jobs” is taking my kids in for their yearly back to school physicals! I hate making appointments, having to check them out of school, and sitting in the waiting room for at least 30 minutes…usually more. This year I found a solution to these problems. Walgreens Healthcare Clinics! No more sitting in the stuffy waiting room, having the office staff at my kids’ school giving me dirty looks for checking out all 4 of my kids, and paying over $50 a kid for their office visits! Whaahoo!
Usually, when I tell my kids that it’s time for their yearly check-ups, they are anything but excited. When I tell my kids we are going to Walgreens, they all want to go! What a fantastic location for a healthcare clinic. Even though they were all begging to go, I decided to take my 7-year-old daughter. I got online to make an appointment for our local Walgreens Healthcare Clinic, but found out there wasn’t a wait, so we just walked right in! How convenient is that? It was also so nice to be able to take her on a Saturday afternoon. Our regular PCP closes at 12 on Fridays and is (of course) not open on weekends. The Walgreens Healthcare Clinics are open 7 days a week! Not only that, but on weekdays most locations are open until 7. Perfect for anyone working a 9-5 job that doesn’t want to take time off for appointments!
When we walked into Walgreens, the Healthcare Clinic was easy to spot. It was in the back of the store near the pharmacy. There were two kiosks with computers to check in. It was so easy to figure out and only took a couple minutes. I let my daughter help type in her name and birthday. She loved the touchscreen! After finishing the forms, we saw our name pop up on the “patient queue.” It said we were first in line. About 5 minutes later we were called back. The Nurse Practitioner was so kind and friendly…even more so than our primary care physician! I don’t think my daughter will ever want to go back to our regular doctor’s office! After checking her height, weight, blood pressure, vision, ears, and heart we were ready to go! Quick and painless! Check out my Google+ story to see how it all went!
Here are 10 reasons to take your kids to Walgreens Healthcare Clinics for their back to school physicals:
1 – Convenient – Walgreens Healthcare clinics are open 7 days a week and close later than most doctor’s offices! Perfect for those with traditional jobs who still would like to be their for their kids without missing work.
2 – Quick – We waited less than 10 minutes and were on our way home in about 25.
3 – No Appointment Needed – You can walk in if you didn’t get a chance to make an appointment online. If you do want to make an appointment online, it is super easy! It will also tell you the current wait time for walk-ins.
4 - Not your typical “doctor’s office” – If your kids are nervous about going to the “doctor,” walking into a Walgreens can be a much less scary experience!
5 – Several Locations – Instead of having to go to your primary physician, you can just find the Walgreens Healthcare Clinic that is nearest to where you are…even if you are on the other side of town!
6 – Limited Paperwork – We were able to fill out everything we needed to on the computer in the waiting area. It was nice not receiving a huge stack of papers to fill out by hand!
7 – Know Your Place In Line – There is a computer in the waiting area with a “patient queue” to let you know where you are in line.
8 - Shop While You Wait – Nothing is more boring than sitting in an overcrowded waiting room with nothing to do! By visiting the Walgreens Healthcare Clinics, you can shop or even just look around while you wait!
9 – Affordable – They accept most insurance plans, but even without insurance, the back to school physicals are just $39 for patients under the age of 21. (price good through Sept 30, 2013)
10 – Great for Those Without a Primary Care Physician – Whether you are new in town and haven’t found a PCP or don’t have health insurance, Walgreens Healthcare Clinics are located in select states nationwide and are an affordable option.
